The BMCC’s green roof captures and buffers rainwater, improves air quality and helps regulate the building’s indoor temperature.
Rainwater collected at the BMCC is put to direct use: it irrigates the trees on Beursplein and supplies the building’s sanitary facilities, reducing reliance on mains water for day-to-day operations. Alongside this, the building is equipped with water-efficient toilets, showers and taps throughout, keeping overall consumption as low as possible.
Sustainability added value: By capturing and reusing rainwater on-site, the BMCC closes a natural water cycle that urban buildings typically interrupt. This reduces pressure on the municipal water network, lowers operational water costs, and supports the health of the surrounding urban greenery — while water-saving fixtures ensure every drop that does enter the building is used as efficiently as possible.
