A notable initiative within Wintercircus is the dedicated collaboration around polystyrene “waste”. This material, which is rarely recycled in standard waste streams, is collected by Nivomix and processed for recycling. More broadly, waste at Wintercircus is sorted as selectively as possible at the source and collected by Renewi, with everything gathered and separated in line with the legal requirements that apply in Flanders. This combination of a specialised partner for a problematic material and a structured general waste flow ensures that as much as possible is steered away from incineration and back into useful cycles.

Sustainability added value: Polystyrene is bulky, lightweight, and notoriously difficult to recycle, which means it usually ends up incinerated. By organising a separate collection with a specialised recycler, Wintercircus turns this stream into a recyclable resource and avoids the CO₂ emissions and resource loss linked to disposal. Combined with selective sorting at source via Renewi, this approach measurably reduces residual waste, increases material recovery rates, and sets a concrete example for circular waste management in the events sector.
