Policy on the Choice of Flowers and Plants

A clear policy favours local, seasonal or reusable flowers over imported, single-use decoration.

A clear policy guides the choice of flowers and plants used in the venue and at events. The policy gives preference to local, seasonal flowers, which generally carry the lowest environmental impact and are naturally biodegradable. Reusable artificial flowers can also form a sustainable alternative under this policy, but only when they are used over the long term and across many events. Imported out-of-season flowers and single-use artificial arrangements are avoided, as they typically come with a much larger ecological footprint.

Sustainability added value: Floral decoration is often invisible in sustainability discussions, yet imported flowers travel long distances, are grown with intensive water and pesticide use, and are usually discarded within days. By embedding these choices in a clear policy, the venue meaningfully cuts the CO₂, water and waste impact of every event held on site.
